| - Vorenus University is a private research university in Angelwick, Porthfield, established 3636. Its history, influence and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world, and the most prestigious in Vorona. Established originally by a local church and soon thereafter named for James Vorenus (the first religious head of state), Vorenus is Vorona's oldest institution of higher learning, and the Vorenus Corporation (formally, the President and Fellows of Vorenus College) is its first chartered corporation. Although never formally affiliated with any denomination, the early College primarily trained Terran Patriarchal clergy. Its curriculum and student body were gradually secularized during the late 37th century, and by the early 38th century Vorenus had emerged as the central cultural establishment among Voronan elites. Following the repeal of the Magna Edictum, President Edith Newbury transformed the college and affiliated professional schools into a modern research university and began to reform the curriculum and liberalize the admissions. Vorenus is a large, highly residential research university. The nominal cost of attendance is low, but the University has been publicly lobbying the government for an endowment to allow it to offer financial aid to many students. It operates several museums, and the Vorenus University Library is the largest academic library system, and the largest private library system, in Dovani.
