Pokémate is a Nintendo published, Square Enix developed cell phone application released in Japan in December of 2006. In it, players are given a random Starter Pokémon and are subsequently able to capture Pokémon. The Pokémon they capture can then be used as the person's avatar when chatting with friends. The application costs 210 yen per month. Square Enix has been involved with many mobile applications based on preexisting properties including Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts.
