  • A boarding house was a private home where individuals could rent rooms to sleep in. In 1893, Mrs. Carmichael ran a boarding house. Several time travelling crew members of the USS Enterprise-D stayed there while trying to retrieve Data. Before they left, Jean-Luc Picard mentioned the bill they'd racked up to Samuel Clemens, who offered to settle it for them. (TNG: "Time's Arrow" , "Time's Arrow, Part II" )

  • The Boarding House (BH) was created in Forum Games around the same time as RI, though it didn't gain many active posters until after the thread was shut down. Its original inhabitants consisted of Jean, Aura, Lady, MoogleEXE, Quiksilver, phoenix_seraphim and a few others. After the first Boarding House, the threads were created in the Role Play forum. In one of the first next generations, the topic was flooded with members of the recently shut down Weird People Club, among them Lady Undine, Piro, Summoner Sheena, and many others. In addition, a couple of eDrama perpetrators from RI started posting regularly: Cruxis, Chinky, Nali, in addition to Nali's ex-girlfriend from a Neopets forum, Jupiter. The BH lasted 9 generations, 2 more than RI, mostly thanks to its existence in Role-Play rather than General Discussion. It saw more than its share of drama, especially in the 9th generation, titled The Noble Nine (a title inspired by a hierarchical level going by the same name and which consisted of members who had been present since the first few incarnations of the Boarding House). In one of the Boarding House threads, Quiksilver attempted to reincarnate Random Insanity through the Boarding House. They suggested that the Random Insanity regulars begin posting in the thread. However, that proved to be short-lived: both the users and the drama were entirely different in the two threads, and thus the Random Insanity users quickly became disinterested. After the permanent destruction of the Tales forum Boarding House, the creative BHers (as they called themselves) created a splinter forum called the Boarding House Tribute where they could and do continue to have a Boarding House in addition to many other sections. It is, for the most part, a successful, if slow, splinter forum.
