Gensei-ryū (玄制流) is a karate style with roots in Shuri-te, one of the three original karate styles of Okinawa Japan. It was developed by Seiken Shukumine (1925-2001) who combined classic techniques with his own innovations thus developing the special characteristics of Gensei-ryū. The name Gensei-ryū was first used in 1953. In Japanese the name consists of three different characters (kanji):玄制流.
