For the first time, the field was expanded to over 550 including Live Action characters. In a very controversial final (see "Controversy" below), Fa Mulan defeated Simba with a vote of 21 to 14. It was one of the closest, most debated, and most controversial Top 10s in the history of SMCs, and is surely one for the books.
