Thomas Chamberlen (c.1842 - 12 August 1912) was a builder and local politician active in the Hammersmith area. His father, also named Thomas, had started the building business of Chamberlen Brothers. Thomas junior became the principal in the firm, which did a number of major commissions, including the new parish church of St Paul's, Hammersmith, in 1882. Thomas junior became the principal in the firm, which did a number of major commissions, including the new parish church of St Paul's, Hammersmith, in 1882. Chamberlen entered local politics in 1872 as a member of both Hammersmith Vestry and Fulham District Board of Works. By the time of the creation of the Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith in 1900 Chamberlen was known as "the father of Hammersmith" and was unanimously chosen as the borough's first mayor.
