For photosynthesis to go on sustainably, the entire cell is needed, along with other cells supporting it, if it is a land plant. There are many single-celled photosynthetic organisms, but they have a different cell structurel. If you're just interested in what alone is needed to undergo photosynthesis unsustainably, then that would probably be the thylakoids which are found in chloroplasts.
