Tatum attended Florida State University, where he was a three year starter (2000-2002) and was the 11th overall pick in the 2003 Common Draft by the Bears, the only team he has played for. While the Bears are known for their defensive prowess, Tatum's presence has allowed more offensive openness and the Bears have won three titles with him as their starter (2006, 2009 and 2011) and have not missed the playoffs since the 2004-05 AFL season. Tatum has also appeared in films and television series, occasionally as himself, and has modelled for numerous brands. Due to his media exposure, Tatum is ranked as one of the "most hated" players in the AFL by fans of other teams, although he is a celebrated star in Chicago.
