Nadira was born in Lebanon (now the Federal State of Israel) to a Moroccan couple. Her father, Abdulkarim El-Zein moved to the United Emirates in 1982 as an attache to the Moroccan Embassy in Dubai (FW). He served as ambassador between 1986 and 1992. Nadira studied law at the University of Dubai from 1993-1997. Working for the government, she met Prince Faisal in 1998. After prolonged dating she and the prince were married in 2004. She became the queen in 2009 and is seen as part of the new, liberal Middle East.
