He was able to improve somewhat at Mesa Marin, finishing 19th before sliding back to 31st at Phoenix to end the year. Serrano's three other series starts all came during the 1996 season. Twice Serrano visited Phoenix that year and twice Serrano struggled, DNFing to 21st in the spring race and 28th in the fall event. But Serrano had a bright spot in between those two races, starting 27th and driving to a career-best 14th place finish at Tuscon.
