It is found in Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. There was also one record of a sighting in Bundala National Park in Sri Lanka in 2002. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
