Some days later, B'Tumi gives the woman a necklace as a gift, and when he comes to her one night, he vanishes and is suspected to have fallen overboard. Meanwhile, N'Yaga grows more ill and Belit becomes suspicious of the girl. She orders her crew to stay away from her, but Asambi approaches the woman one night and she dives overboard, beckoning him to follow, seeming to sing in her mute voice a song only he can hear. Shaken, the crew sail away.
