John (German: Johann) was the Count of Saffenberg (as John III) from 1353 until 1363, and the Count of Neuenahr-Saffenberg from 1363 until 1405. John was the son of Count Conrad II of Saffenberg. In 1351 he married Catherine, the heiress and daughter of Count William III of Neuenahr. After William's death in 1363 Catherine and John began a succession war with John IV of Neuenahr-Rösberg. John died in 1369 before the war and the succession was resolved.
