Synopsis
  • Roxxon President John Gamelin watches from home as the transformed Tarantula, mentally controlled by Wisp, threatens James Melvin. Tarantula devolves beyond Wisp's ability to control him and wants to eat Melvin. However, Spider-Man grabs Melvin and escapes. Gamelin contacts Roxxon Chairman of the Board D'Angelo for help. After stashing Melvin safely away. Spider-Man leads Wisp across the city's rooftops. TV reporter Geraldo Jimenez spots Tarantula and he and Ernie, his cameraman, chase down the story. Spider-Man lures Wisp to a MTA power plant and subdues him in one of the generators, then hustles back to Melvin who is being threatened by Tarantula. Jimenez and Ernie film the Tarantula and it airs live on TV but Roxxon jams the signal. Wisp revives and confronts Melvin, deciding to turn him over to the authorities instead of killing him. Tarantula, horrified that he has now become a fully morphed giant spider, commits suicide by leaping off the building, forcing the police to shoot him. Wisp hypnotizes Melvin into confessing all of his misdeeds, then departs. Later, Gamelin, on TV, repudiates all knowledge of Melvin's illegal doings and shuts down all Brand plants. Pete thinks this means the good guys won. Robbie is not so sure. After all, "your energy friend" Roxxon Oil, sponsors the 11 o'clock news.
