In the late eighteenth century, Javier Vachon lived among the Mississaugas, and was sufficiently accepted by them that he was chosen to be one of the people who signed a treaty to sell land to the British. The treaty was later believed lost; and the Mississaugas were not, therefore, able to use it as supporting evidence in a land claim against a development company. However, in the course of investigating the murder of one of the Mississauga leaders, Gary Blackwing, Det. Nick Knight and his partner, Tracy Vetter, were able to locate the surviving copy of the treaty where Blackwing had hidden it.
