Portgaz D. Ace was the son of Gol D. Roger the late pirate king. His fame rose to extraordinary heights in 2 years since he became a pirate. Besides he carries the Will of D. He has the trust and loyalty of his fellow crew. I can't think of a better person then him to command WB pirates & allies.

While he could possibly have been a replacement for him, though he was cool and all, and I myself used to think he would be too; looking back, I'd say he really wasn't all that fit for it. seeing as he wasn't nearly as powerful as Whitebeard it'd most likely be Marco, after all he is the 1st Division Commander and he was able to take on each of the Admirals. And seeing as Ace is (most likely) dead now... I think its unlikely for him to take over.
