  • Mike Colona is an attorney and politician from St. Louis, Missouri. He is the 2008 Democratic nominee for the 67th district seat in the Missouri House of Representatives. No Republican is running for the seat so Colona will run unopposed in the November 2008 general election. The district, located entirely within the City of St. Louis, is centered on the Tower Grove neighborhood and is reliably Democratic. Five Democrats filed for the seat, which was left vacant by the forced retirement of Rep. Mike Daus (D–St. Louis), a victim of Missouri's term limits law which prevents state representatives from serving more than four two-year terms. In the primary election held on 2008-08-05, Colona won almost 43 percent of the vote in a five-way race. His nearest opponent finished on 26 percent. Colona earned a Bachelor of Science from Truman State University and a J.D. from St. Louis University. A lawyer in private practice, he specializes in personal injury, worker’s compensation and some first amendment cases. Colona is openly gay and has won the endorsement of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. If elected, he would join two other openly LGBT legislators in Jefferson City: Sen. Jolie Justus (D–Kansas City) and Rep. Jeanette Mott Oxford (D–St. Louis).
