- Checkpoints are a found in various Nitrome games. They allow players to retry a level from a certain area closer to the goal rather than the very start.
- Checkpoints is the first mission of Ace Combat Advance.
- Checkpoints is a Freemode Event featured in Grand Theft Auto Online, added as part of the Freemode Events Update.
- Complex models do not provide many opportunities to save the status of the task to disk. Some projects would just grind to a halt and make the PC less responsive. It is the objective of World Community Grid to ensure that this does not happen and make the process strictly 'in the background and unobtrusive'. For that reason checkpoints are used to secure the data already computed. These checkpoints also are a good moment to close the BOINC client without it resulting in substantial progress loss on restart. The timing of checkpoints are not always easily to determine, but sometimes the graphics provide a visual indication.

The first marker observed was encountered by Raziel on the banks of the 'inner' Great Southern Lake as he exited the Sarafan Stronghold in the Pre-Blood Omen era in A Reaver in Time. - Checkpoints are areas where a player begins with in a level after losing a life. The number of remaining lives are indicated by a glowing ring around the edge. One quarter of the ring will disappear each time any Sack Person uses it to restart. The amount of quarters on the checkpoint will remain the same even when killed if it is an infinite-life checkpoint. The lives are shared among all players. Once all but one of the restarts are used, the ring will glow red and an annoying warning buzz will sound until another checkpoint is activated, or all players are killed. Checkpoints can be glued to surfaces, attached to vehicles, or left loose.
