| - Apparently a table of contents is automatically added to the page once there are at least 4 sections. Is there any way to manually force a table of contents to be displayed, if there are less than 4 sections in the article? --M.harmless (talk) 22:02, June 9, 2010 (UTC) There are a couple of options. You can add __TOC__ (alternatively you can add if you don't want one) or you can add {{TOC right}} if you want one the right hand side. There is also a {{TOC left}} template, but I'm not sure on what differentiates it from __TOC__. 01:09, June 10, 2010 (UTC) Ah, thanks! Oddly enough, I had found the entry for the TOC left template but couldn't get it to work. I can only presume that I made some kind of typing error, as it does work now. Image:Smiley.gif I just tried both {{TOC left}} and __TOC__ The difference is that... {{TOC left}} floats, i.e. text will be displayed beside it, while with __TOC__ text will be displayed underneath it. So I guess __TOC__ will normally be the one to use. --M.harmless (talk) 01:42, June 10, 2010 (UTC) Ah good, and yes I think I would prefer __TOC__ as it looks like the default. 02:36, June 10, 2010 (UTC) TOC left as many issues. The floating make the page look weird and the spacing can has some weird effects. __TOC__ is definitely better. You can also use __FORCETOC__, which places it right where it should be (in case there aren't enough headers). 06:49, June 10, 2010 (UTC) Agreed. Thanks for the FORCETOC info. I just implemented that on The Unscrupulous Merchant page. --M.harmless (talk) 12:17, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
