  • Appellation: The Great Diplomat Antonius Bayle III (2974 - 3059) was ruler of Qeynos during the Age of Turmoil, and presided over one of the most prominent albeit uninentional divisions in the history of Norrathian civilization, namely the splitting of the Bayle lineage. His children, more than he himself, would spell out a schism in the Bayle legacy. As a child, Antonius the Third lived through tumultuous times. The Erudite necromancer exodus that began during his father's early reign culminated with the erection of Paineel. The city of Freeport came under the rule of Sir Lucan D'Lere in 2980, ostensibly creating a cross-continental rivalry that continues to this day. Rising to the throne at the age of 26 (in 2990), Antonius the Third was bound and determined to be a more diplomatic ruler than his father. He broke with many traditions of the Bayle line to date, including the naming of his firstborn son, Kyle Bayle. However, Kyle disappeared mysteriously, and perhaps for nostalgia or perhaps to avoid fate, thirty-five years later he gave birth to his second son, Antonius Bayle IV. Two years later, he fathered the future traitor to the crown Kane Bayle. The mother of Antonius III's three children was Linnett Bayle. For his peaceful ways, Antonius III was known as The Great Diplomat. It was during the reign of Antonius the Third that the tradition of the ruler of Qeynos always being an Antonius was first recorded as a common understanding amongst the citizenry of the city. It is also because of his breaking with tradition that we can safely state that Antonius III and Antonius IV were both known as Antonius from the times of their birth. With Kyle's vanishing, the Bayle line would never again be direct, as Antonius IV would henceforth be the most direct descendant of the Ethernaut known to modern Bayle historians. Antonius the Third died in 3059 at the age of eighty five.
