| - -Doom instruction manual" The Baron of Hell is a Minotaur-like species found within the DOOM Universe. There is only a small number of them in existence. The Baron of Hell is a powerful species that looks like a cross between a Minotaur and a Fawn. The appearance of the Baron of Hell consists of a redish pink complexion, long hairy goat-like legs, a muscular upper body, a bony face, and two black outward curving horns located near it's forehead.
- Like the Imps, they are capable of manifesting a seemingly endless supply of potent plasma charges from their hands and propelling them at their enemies at great speeds. The plasma bolts produced by the Barons of Hell are among the most powerful weapons in the armies of Hell, rivalled in raw power only by the rockets of a Cyberdemon or the fiery upward explosions of Arch-Viles. They are most often green, but some Barons have also been seen flinging bolts of red or bright white.
- A pair of barons, referred to internally by id Software as the "Bruiser Brothers," start as the bosses at the end of Knee-Deep in the Dead, the first episode of Doom. Barons also appear as regular enemies in the later episodes and in the sequels; coincidentally, they and their weaker counterparts the Hell Knights frequently appear in pairs.

They are most often green, but some Barons have also been seen flinging bolts of red or bright white. Several weaker types of this demon have been observed, including the Ogre and the Hellknight - these are referred to as the Baron family of demons. They all share the common bipedal, horned form, and unlike terrestrial creatures, have bright green blood.
They are described in the Doom manual as "tough as a dump truck and nearly as big, these Goliaths are the worst things on two legs since Tyrannosaurus rex"; the Doom II manual later described them as follows: "The Hell Knight was bad news but this is Big Daddy. These bruisers are a lot like Hell Knights, but look a little different and are twice as tough to kill". The original Baron of Hell description was given to the Hell Knight in Doom II's manual instead.
