As a second year scholar he was drafted into the first team squad for the FA Cup match against Corby Town on 12 November 2011 to provide cover on the bench due to an extensive injury list among the first team players. He made his senior debut as a substitute late in the game, which ended in a 3–1 victory for The Pirates. According to the Press Association, Goddard was brought on 2 minutes and 7 seconds into injury time at the end of the match, just 86 seconds before the final whistle. He was involved in controversy after the match when a Corby Fan claimed that Goddard had urinated at the side of the pitch shortly before half time, sparking an investigation by the club. The following season saw him loaned out to Gloucester City in order to gain some first team experience, where he played twelve times, scoring twice.
