- At first he denied the allegations but after three days he resigned his position as leader of the National Association of Evolutionary Biologists and as the President of PFLAG. The AAAAAA or Absolutely Awesome Allied Atheist Association of America has renounced Haggard's membership when it was discovered he was attending church services. Despite the scandal Haggard is involved in he still has some support. Richard Dawkins urged others not to judge Haggard so harshly and that only Natural Selection can decide his fate.
- Pastor Ted "Art" Haggard is one of the most influential Republican Democratic Christian leaders and the former president of the National Association of Evangelicals and former senior pastor of the New Life mega-church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Therefore, you just know he's not gay. It is true that he purchased meth, but he had perfectly good reasons: he said it was to help him speed read the Bible, the gay hooker attractive young gentleman who sold it to him said Haggard needed it to relax while... um... well, that's not the issue here.

His partner Mike Jones, was supportive even after the straight affair was discovered and felt bad for Haggard saying "It must be so hard to be a straight man in Liberal America, science bless his soul". Others in both the scientific and gay community though were quick to condemn Haggard including biochemist Michael Behe and gay activist Pat Robertson

It is true that he purchased meth, but he had perfectly good reasons: he said it was to help him speed read the Bible, the gay hooker attractive young gentleman who sold it to him said Haggard needed it to relax while... um... well, that's not the issue here. He is a trusted adviser to George W. Bush, participating in weekly telephone conferences. Right there, you can tell he's not gay. Furthermore, he is married, which is more proof he isn't gay; gay people can't get married. “I am steady with my wife. I’m faithful to my wife.” Would a gay say that?

In November 2006, he resigned from all of his leadership positions after allegations of homosexual sex and drug abuse were made by Mike Jones, a former male prostitute. Initially Haggard denied even knowing Mike Jones, but as a media investigation proceeded he acknowledged that some allegations, such as his purchase of methamphetamine, were true. He later added "sexual immorality" to his list of confessions. After the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive counseling, overseen by four ministers. On February 6, 2007, one of those ministers, Tim Ralph stated that Haggard "is completely heterosexual." Ralph later said he meant to say that therapy "gave Ted the tools to help to embrace his heterosexual side."
