| - The School Defense Act of 2013 (Coded: 3-1; also called the SD Act) is a Southwest Republic legislative piece introduced by Barbara Boxer (L-SC) on January 12, 2013, in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012. The shooting prompted renewed debate about gun control across the former United States, including the Southwest Republic. The Act establishes the Federal School Marshal Service, which is similiar to the Federal Air Marshal Service, but is specifically designed to protect students and staff while school is in sessession. It also requires the improvement of security and the addition of surveillance cameras, electric fences, bulletproof windows, and auto-locking doors. The Senate passed the bill with a slim majority of 47-43 on January 15 and was signed into law by President Ahiga Johnson on January 16, 2013.
