After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II, Brennan joined the Saskatoon Elks of the Western Canada Senior Hockey League in 1945-46. He played two seasons for the Elks and then moved on to the Fresno Falcons of the Pacific Coast Hockey League. Brennan then went on to play for the Omaha Knights, Indianapolis Capitals, Edmonton Flyers, Seattle Bombers, and the Calgary Stampeders. He retired in 1955. He had found time during his playing career to graduate from the University of Alberta. After his retirement Brennan moved to California where he lived until his death in 2011.
