| - A Flexite denture is a metal-free partial denture made of thermoplastic materials. Flexite is a 49 year old dental company located in Mineola, New York, USA. There are 5 different types of Flexite thermoplastics. All Flexite thermoplastics are FDA Type II Device Registered, ISO9001 certified, and manufactured in compliance with European CE standards. Flexite Plus is an unbreakable nylon for partials. Available in light pink, dark pink, translucent pink, ethnic brown, ethnic purple, coe ethnic moderate and natural shades. Flexite Plus is very flexible and unbreakable. It can be used by novice and experienced technicians. Flexite Supreme is a cast like nylon for partials that is less flexible and a little easier to polish than unbreakable- flexible nylon thermoplastics. Flexite Supreme has less shrinkage than flexible- non breakable nylons, but it requires better technical designing skills. When working with Flexite Supreme a lab technician should block out and design all undercuts of the teeth on the duplicate model and also use a surveyor. Flexite Supreme is not recommended for new technicians with limited designing experience. Improper blockout of undercuts and not using a surveyor tool can create excessive stress on a clasp. This stress on a clasp, over time, can cause the clasp to fracture. Flexite Ultra is a more rigid nylon thermoplastic with extremely accurate fits. Used for full dentures. Flexite Ultra is a substitute for conventional acrylic dentures when a patient is allergic to acrylic monomers. Available in light pink, dark pink and clear shades. All three Flexite nylon thermoplastics can be repaired one of two ways. (1) A cold cure repair using a special bonding agent and Flexite Rapid Set Pink or Rapid Set Clear fine powder acrylic. Rapid Set is used with a conventional fast cure liquid monomer. Rapid Set is translucent and blends in with the natural color of the partial denture. Cold cure repairs are made to non-flexing areas only because Rapid Set is not flexible. (2) A dental lab can re-inject new hot thermoplastic of the same type and color back to the original partial or denture. This procedure cannot be done chairside in the dentist office. This is an allergy free way to add to or repair an existing nylon partial or denture. No chemicals are used with this method. Flexite manufactures a Flexite MP (multi-polymer) acrylic thermoplastic that is used for Full Dentures, TMJ's, Bruxism and Anti-Snoring Devices. It is available in pink, Lucitone pink, ethnic brown and clear colors. It contains an already cured monomer in the plastic pellets so there is no free liquid monomer. Most patients use Flexite MP for their full dentures if they are not allergic to acrylic. Flexite MP full dentures are easily relined, chairside, in the dental office. Flexite MP clear thermoplastic is crystal clear and makes very attractive TMJ's, Bruxism and Anti-snoring Devices. This material can be relined with any cold cure acrylic, Flexite Rapid Set Powder and liquid or a soft silicone liner like Flexite Flexil. Flexite Acetal is virtually indestructable. Used for cosmetic clip on veneers that cover you natural teeth. Also used for framework in place of conventional metal frames. Flexite Acetal is available in all tooth color shades. A pink saddle can be attached to an acetal frame, in a combination, using another type of Flexite thermoplastic. Lastly, Flexite Acetal is used for provisional splint cases when a patient is having implant restoration work done.
