Having two older brothers and a younger sister, his devotion and drive to ensure that the Van Beek name remained in the forefront of not only the Bakuran elite, but also the empire that they served. One day, he determined, the galaxy would know his name. Raised to be a businessman, Willem picked up a great deal not only from his father, but uncles and grandfather as well. They taught him to be as shrewd as they were, ensuring their bank accounts only grew instead of being drained by foolish ventures. Once in college, Willem found his talents lay more in the military than the commercial and entered the officer's program. In time, once he graduated, Willem rose through the ranks and within twenty years of service, found himself in with Bakura's most respected naval tacticians. Diplomacy was a tool that he used on several occasions to gain an end to conflicts nearby, his cold demeanor and ruthless determination spelled the end of many a would-be revolutionary. Once the Empire openly attacked Telos, Willem knew that his command would have to continue in the service of the those directly engaging the New Republic. Retiring from the Bakuran Defense Forces, he's bid farewell to his family and embarked on a trip to Bastion where he'll forge a new career. He's only daring the younger upstarts to call him old or say that he should be thinking more on retiring rather than starting over.
