The cure for cancer was developed in space aboard the International Space Station in 2022 and is widely credited with igniting the Second Space Race. Developed by a group of scientist-astronauts who, when aboard the ISS doing research on cancer, found that cancer cells in test animals died within several days when administered a chemical cocktail mixed in zero gravity. The cure was tested on Earth later, and it did not work. Eventually, it was discovered that the cure only worked when it was created and administered in space, prompting "space laboratories" to be created to develop the substance and research other substances that could help/cure other diseases.
