Hermod is the messenger of the gods in Norse mythology, son of Odin and Frigg. Hermod volunteered to travel to Hel and plead to Hel herself for Balder's return. He saw Balder and he begged Hel to release him, because Balder was loved by all so no-one could miss him. Hel was skeptical and agreed to release Balder on the condition that everything, dead or alive, should weep for Balder. If only one thing should not cry, then she would keep Balder in the realm of the dead. Hermod returned to the land of the living and told the gods what Hel's terms were. After hearing the terms, every single being started to cry, except for one giantess, who reportedly said "Let Hel keep what she has! The son of Odin is no use to me." Therefore leaving Balder in Hel till Ragnarok.

- Hermod was a member of the Asgard race who was dispatched by Thor to the world of Cimmeria after the attempted invasion of it by the Goa'uld Heru'ur. Once the native human populace learnt that their deity Thor was in fact from a race of aliens after SG-1 aided the inhabitants by solving the puzzles within the Hall of Thor's Might. Upon solving its test, the Asgard's true nature was revealed and it was decided to help not only protect the world from further Goa'uld attack but to also educate its populace. To help achieve that end, Hermod was transported to the world where he began working with the inhabitants as well as overseeing its protection. (RPG: "Friends and Foes: Stargate Season Two")
- Hermod, demigod of messengers is a demigod of the Asgardian Pantheon. At the Godsmoot, Hermod appeared through his High Priestess to vote on the destruction of the world after the High Priest of Balder managed to attract their attention due to the disappearance of the ushers. Though he was originally convinced by the goddess of Death, Hel, to vote for the destruction of the world, he appeared to believe that it was more of a protest vote and did not think she actually had the votes to go through with it. Not willing to be the one to deliver the world's destruction, he voted no.
- Hermod is a ghost found at a crash site in the Salintus Desert in Morheim. He is as easily confused in death as he was in life.
- Hermod is the Squad Leader of a Special Forces Unit that is made up of Valiant warriors (dead heroes that have been reanimated). He is voiced by Keith Ferguson.
- Hermod is the first wanderer in the Sunhood, and its year lasts 88 Earth days. As there is no loft on Hermod, it becomes rather cold at night, as low as 100 K (−173 °C; −280 °F). It is also rather hot throughout the day, reaching 700 K (427 °C; 800 °F) in some herns. The northmost and southmost deals never reach above 180 K (−93 °C; −136 °F). Hermod's axle has the smallest tilt of any wanderer; about one 30th of a mete. At its pathspot farthest away from the Sun, it is 50% further away than at its nearest.
