The Boiling Sea was a small landlocked body of water that bubbled and steamed during the summer months on Drall, thus warranting its name. The effect was not due merely to summer heat, but to a massive summer algae bloom. The algae released bubbles of gas when they died. The algae blooms provided food for the local ibbots. The banks of the Boiling Sea became a popular tourist attraction for the Drall and eventually sparked a lucrative offworld tourist industry, featuring resorts, health spas (such as the Luminous Gardens), hiking tours, and campgrounds. North of the sea was the region of Mastigophorous, ruled by the Duchess Marcha.

It was created many millennia ago, before the recorded history of the Elves had begun. An immense earthquake ripped apart the coasts bordering the Far Sea and toppled them into the seas, fashioning the patchwork of islands that now run along the length of the western coast. The earthquake also tore deep rents in the sea bed, terrible wounds in the world's flesh that have never healed. Through these fissures, molten lava surges up from the world's core, heating the water and creating great bursts of explosive vapors. In parts, the sea literally boils, giving rise to the region's name.[1a]

  • Having now fallen in love, Cyrus and Alice visit the Boiling Sea, where they watch it from a ledge on the rocky cliffs. Alice comments on how amazing it is in person, and Cyrus tells her she's the same. As the two look lovingly at each other, Cyrus apologizes and explains that he was always the one granting wishes, not making them. Alice asks what he's talking about, so he explains that throughout his time as a genie, all he wanted to be was free, but now he has another wish. He gets down on one knee, trying to mimic a proposal from Alice's land, but before he can give a speech, Alice agrees cheerfully. The two of them embrace in a kiss and then Cyrus shows Alice his necklace, which is glowing red, stating their hearts are entwined, so from now on he'll know when she is near. However, this moment is soon ruined when the Red Queen arrives with her armed guards. The Red Queen attempts to capture Cyrus, but he and Alice fight off the guards. When it seems like they've won, the Red Queen gives a flick of her hand, pushing Cyrus backwards and down into the Boiling Sea. Alice watches in horror, screaming his name as he falls to his apparent death. However, unbeknownst to her, Jafar is waiting on the cliffs with his magic carpet and he catches Cyrus, taking him prisoner. ("Down the Rabbit Hole"/"Who's Alice?")

In parts, the sea literally boils, giving rise to the region's name.[1a] Of all the Dark Elves' warships, only the Black Arks dare to enter this inhospitable and dangerous territory. They do so for one reason only -- to capture the monstrous sea creatures that have become such an important part of their fleet. Although many parts of the Boiling Sea are deadly to all forms of life, there are others where the mineral-rich waters teem with all manner of savage predators. Many such beasts, notably the ferocious Helldrakes and the vast Sea Dragons, have long served the Dark Elves as vessels of war -- at least since the Naggarothi learned how to sorcerously fuse battle-fortresses to the beasts' backs. With more and more of these creatures brought back from the Boiling Sea, the Dark Elf fleets have been dramatically transformed -- many Black Arks are now accompanied by flotillas of these primeval terrors.[1a]

The Boiling Sea was created millennia ago by a great earthquake which tore the continent apart. The rift it left behind never truly healed and the area remains a place of seismic activity to this day. Lava continues to leak from the sea floor, warming the water and causing it to boil, thus giving the body its name, the Boiling Sea. The mineral rich water is home to plankton and number of predatory animals. Today, the Boiling Sea is traversed by Dark Elf ships travelling to the Far East and Black Arks hunting for sea monsters.
