The skirmish expands into a batalion level battle which ends after a week with Thailand retreating back to the border. Both sides claim victory. Indochina suffers 355 casualties and Thailand suffers 120. Both countries agree to ask the international community for a peacekeeping force, Japan and Greece are the first to volunteer make up almost half the force, with the USSR, Malaysia and India making up the rest. Indochina demanded that US and French troops not be allowed in the force. 1985 Small riots take place when the PM of Thailand publicly supports the Imperial government of Japan. However, many people believe increased friendship with Japan may be a safeguard from a war with Indochina. 1987 Relations between Thailand and Indochina begin to return to normal after the signing of a 'treaty of harmony'. Prisoners taken during the border conflict are returned. 1991 - Indochina is led into the Warsaw Pact by its then leader, Nong Durc Manh. 1992 - Indochina is withdrawn from the Warsaw Pact by its current leader, Nguyen Nguyen. Because of continued troubles the economy has grown slowly, however, because of abundant resources and a strong potential for farming and industry economists hope for good things.
