Hailing from the southern shores of the Caspian, the Dailamiyan (Persian, "those of Dailam") have supplied Shahs and Sultans with the finest infantry east of the Tigris for all time. These men are fearless warriors staunch of heart and great in tribal pride, and so they are a form of ranged heavy infantry capable of taking down even the mightiest of knights. Their only problem is that since they eschew armour, they are somewhat weak and easily bullied by massed infantry, especially archers, and that with a very high pricetag, they can only be found in the courts of the richest sultans and khans — but with mercenaries, what you pay is what you get.

| - Hailing from the southern shores of the Caspian, the Dailamiyan (Persian, "those of Dailam") have supplied Shahs and Sultans with the finest infantry east of the Tigris for all time. Because of the rugged terrain of their home in the highlands of the Elburz range and the apparent poverty thereof, the people of Dailam grew to become a rugged and fierce people who managed to repulse many invaders of their lands. First taking up arms with the Sassanians as mercenaries, Dailam warriors eventually worked for Muslim pay as well, serving throughout the Islamic world as far afield as Spain and Central Asia. The courage and fierce warrior spirit of the Dailamid tribesmen is attested by the fact that they even possibly managed to continue practising Zoroastrian beliefs well into the 11th century, as the Muslim authorities could not effectively ensconce their rule in the Dailamid highlands. The Buyids of Iran, emergent from 945 to 1035CE were descended from Dailamid nobility.
