Anton Adriaan Mussert (11 May 1894, Werkendam, North Brabant – 7 May 1946) was a civil engineer and one of the founders of the National Socialist Movement (equivalent to the Nazi Party) in the Netherlands (NSB). He was the most prominent national socialist in the Netherlands before and during World War II. During the German occupation of the country, Mussert made himself useful to the occupiers, eventually receiving the title of "Leader of the Dutch People" from Adolf Hitler in 1942. This was a ceremonial title; Arthur Seyss-Inquart actually administered the country as Reichskommissar from 1940 to 1945.
