He learns to his dismay that the roar he emitted did not even come close to scaring Sheriff Woody the cowboy, and in fact it actually came off as annoying. He is also shocked along with the toys when he learns that Andy's "birthday" was moved from the Wednesday of the following week to the current day, and expresses fear of his being replaced, especially if it was another carnivore-based dinosaur toy as he wouldn't take that rejection well. When the surprise present is unveiled to the kids and Sarge reports it, but is unable to ascertain the identity of the present, Rex ends up inadvertently wrecking the baby monitor due to his shaking the bedside due to impatiently wanting to know the identity of the surprise present. When Buzz Lightyear the space ranger first comes to Andy's room, he is just as amazed by him as all the other toys (as well as greatly relieved that Buzz wasn't another dinosaur) and even managed to become more fierce with his roar thanks to Buzz. Rex watches Sid Phillips destroy a Combat Carl action figure with Woody, Buzz Mr. Potato Head, Bo Peep and Lenny. After Woody accidentally knocks Buzz out the window, Rex tries to avoid siding with any one when Potato Head accuses Woody of trying to kill Buzz out of jealously. After Andy and Woody leave for Pizza Planet, Rex and the gang stage a search and recuse mission to save Buzz. When Andy's family returned without Woody, Rex wondered if Potato Head was right. The next day when he saw Woody hold Buzz's severed arm in Sid's house, he actually barfs. That night, it is revealed that Potato Head is his moving buddy. The following day, when Woody arrives on the moving van and throw RC Car out to save Buzz from Scud, Rex and the gang think Woody is trying to kill RC and Rocky Gibraltar throws him out. After Lenny and Bo Peep see Woody with Buzz on RC, Rex quickly experiences guilt. By the end of the film, he seems to have gained confidence throughout the movies expressing hope that Andy will receive a leaf-eating dinosaur for Christmas that Rex can play with and intimidate.
