The founders were members of three kvutzot who had met during their training in Kfar Giladi; Palmach trainees who were former members of the HaTenua HaMeuhedet youth movement, American HaBonim members who were Ma'apilim (illegal immigrants of the Aliyah Bet), and members of the Hayilim-Haultzim (Soldiers-Pioneers) gar'in made up of South Africans who had met whilst fighting in the British Army during World War II.
