The Nurse of the Stars was a ship of the MF1000 Nebulon-E-class Medical Frigate (A.K.A The Flying Hospital) of the GFSSN and was assigned to Task Force Hope of the Medical Flotilla, a fleet of medical ships used for medevac and humanitarian purposes. The MF1000 Nebulon-E-class was one of the first models of the Nebulon escort frigate line to be a purpose-built hospital ship (previous Nebulon-class medical frigates having been converted from escort frigates into hospital ships). abstract
  • The Nurse of the Stars was a ship of the MF1000 Nebulon-E-class Medical Frigate (A.K.A The Flying Hospital) of the GFSSN and was assigned to Task Force Hope of the Medical Flotilla, a fleet of medical ships used for medevac and humanitarian purposes. The MF1000 Nebulon-E-class was one of the first models of the Nebulon escort frigate line to be a purpose-built hospital ship (previous Nebulon-class medical frigates having been converted from escort frigates into hospital ships). Because they were hospital ships all members of the class were protected from attack under the GFSS Laws of War Convention and were also unarmed due to the convention, which forbid firing on an MF1000. Deliberatly firing upon a medical frigate when it was blantantly following the clauses of the convention (not transporting arms, landing marines, directly taking part in hostilities or engaging in any other combat duties) was a war crime. All medical frigates had to be clearly marked with large crosses of healing to denote that they were carrying wounded and/or non-combatants, and, as such, were protected from attack by galactic law. Despite this they were allowed to carry a missile-repelling field generator for defensive purposes only. However, not even the large crosses were able to protect MF1000s from being fired upon. A month before Nurse of the Stars was destroyed, she was attacked by a N'Akkiarlian destroyer during the Invasion of Quermia, the first battle between the GFSS and the N'Akkiarlian Star Empire. Nurse of the Stars and the rest of Task Force Hope was conducting a humanitarian operation, called Operation: Safe-guard in which the task force was to get as many Quermian civilians away from the planet as possible, and help those who couldn't be evacuated. However upon approaching Quermia, the task force came under attack from a N'Akkiarlian destroyer which had noticed them leaving hyperspace. Since they weren't armed, they were sitting ducks and most of the task force was destroyed in minutes before the GFSSNS Wampa noticed the task force was under attack. The Wampa immediately disengaged from the main space battle to help the now-limping task force, and vapourised the destroyer, so the few ships that remained of Task Force Hope reached the planet and evacuated as many civilians as they could, giving medical supplies to those who had to stay behind. The task force then returned to Coruscant.
