He was born on 10 February 1939 in Grünewald, Berlin, German Empire, the oldest son and child of Emperor Louis Ferdinand I and Empress Kira, née Grand Duchess of Russia. Frederick William became German Emperor and King of Prussia upon the death of his father on 26 September 1994. He married on 22 August 1967 to Waltraud Freytag (born 1940), a daughter of Dr. Alois Freytag and his wife, Annemarie, née Rolfs. Frederick William and Waltraud divorced on 12 June 1975, however, they had a son: Philip (born 1968), who is the heir to the German and Prussian thrones Frederick William married, secondly, on 24 April 1976 to Ehrengard von Reden (born 1943), a daughter of the late Günther von Reden and his wife, Ehrengard, née von Hülsen, also deceased. Frederick William and Ehrengard divorced 2004, and Ehrengard lost her royal titles, and is now Mrs. Ehrengard von Hohenzollern. With her, the Emperor has three children: Frederick William (born 1979) Victoria-Louisa (born 1982) Joachim (born 1984) Emperor Frederick William V married, thirdly, on 23 March 2004 to Sibylle Kretschmer (born 1952). In his third marriage, the Emperor has no issue. Emperor Frederick William V is #318 in the Line of Succession to the Swedish Throne.
