The Vorlakials were a High Vor family from Barrayar. No member of this family has yet appeared in story. However, two mentions at the time of the beginning of the Aral Vorkosigan Regency suggest that they were a prominent family: Aral named a Vorlakial as a better strategist than himself, and Count Vorlakial was named as having been killed before his Residence was burned. Apparently the fourth Count Vorlakial lived about a hundred and fifty years before Miles Vorkosigan, and the family experienced a tragedy that resulted in a succession debate of interest to Miles.

Darkoi was a well-known place associated with the Vorlakial's District; possibly it was their District Capital. (Alternatively, it may have been a local name for the District, just as Dendarii was for the Vorkosigan's District.)
