| - The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 2001 at Thermopylae in Scotland. The name comes from greek thermo + pileae, because it was the first time the greeks had seen so much heat piling up. Herodotus says that Cowardus runs to queen helena, the queen ask : "Ques que se, cowardus?" - "Es is Thermopylae!" A battle between the age-old houses of Murdoch and Connery, the fire that caught hold of much of the battleground following the slaughter sank most of New Zealand into the sea, causing much uproar from Lord of the Rings fans and drawing polite comparisons with Atlantis from more learned observers.
- The Battle of Thermopylae was fought between an alliance of Greek city-states, led by Sparta, and the Persian Empire of Xerxes I over the course of three days, during the second Persian invasion of Greece. The Spartans who led the defense were all killed, and they may have known in advance that they would be, but their courage provided inspiration to the Greeks. Although the Spartans were killed at Thermopylae, they held the line long enough for others to escape and the following year the Greeks did win battles they fought against the Persians.
- The Battle of Thermopylae was a conflict that involved several Greek forces fighting against the invading Persian Empire. Thermopylae was a mountain path by the sea, where the Sparta leader Leonidas I, three hundred Spartans, seven hundred Thespians, four hundred Thebans, and nine hundred Helots defended the pass from the Persians. Julian Bashir, fascinated with last stands, had a holoprogram featuring the battle. He planned to get Ezri Dax to join him. (DS9 episode: "What You Leave Behind", DS9 - Section 31 novel: Abyss)
- An Axis & Allies Style game from the Guild of Blades he Battle of Thermopylae, 480 BC,was fought between an alliance of Greek city-states and the invading Persian army in the pass of Thermopylae. Greatly outnumbered, the Greeks delayed the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Led by the Spartan King, Leonidas, a small force of 300 Spartans and 11,000 other allied Greeks blocked the only road through which the mighty army of the Persian King, Xerxes, could pass on its ongoing invasion of Greece. The massive Persian army, numbering well over 150,000 men succeeded in defeating the Greeks but sustained heavy losses, disproportionate to those of the Greeks. - The battle of Thermopylae was fought between the Greeks and the Persians in 480 BCE. The Persian "God king" Xerxes, master of the huge Persian Empire, was waging war on Greece for control of its lands and people. The battle is most known for two factors: 1) the impressive show of strength by the Persians, whose forces numbered between 200,000 to 2 million 2) the determination and bravery of the few thousand Greeks who tried to stop them. The estimated 6700 Non-Spartan Greeks (Athenians and soldiers from other city-states) were led by the Spartan king Leonidas. The Spartans themselves numbered a few hundred.
