The HME 1871 is a custom chassis manufactured by HME. The 1871 model, named for the year of the Great Chicago Fire, was originally introduced by Hendrickson Mobile Equipment. After the closure of Grumman Emergency Products (for which HME had supplied chassis), the 1871 was reborn. Several apparatus manufacturers use the chassis, and HME also builds complete custom apparatus using the 1871.
