| - Sonic & Knuckles (ソニックナックルズ Sonikku to nakkuruzu) ist die direkte Fortsetzung von Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Das Spiel gibt es für die Sega Mega Drive und erschien 2011 auf dem Nintendo DS (in Form einer Sammlung).
- Sonic is continuing his journey across the Floating Island. He has just downed Doctor Robotnik's relaunching Death Egg, but it is still functional and could be launched again at any time. Sonic is also attempting to convince guardian Knuckles that he isn't after his Chaos Emeralds. Soon, all becomes clear when Robotnik betrays Knuckles and steals the Master Emerald. Knuckles stops harassing Sonic and leads him to the Sky Sanctuary Zone where Sonic boards the Death Egg and completely destroys it, before retrieving the Emerald.
- Sonic & Knuckles was a band based out of St. Joel's Catholic High School in Northern Ontario, Canada. Originally consisting of Scott Pilgrim (guitar) and Lisa Miller (bass), the band added Kim Pine when they learned she could play the drums. They played one "Lunchapalooza" gig at their school but broke up when Scott moved to Toronto. The band's history is shown in flashback at the beginning of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The band's name is based on the 1994 Sega Genesis game Sonic & Knuckles

As well as working as a standalone game, through a system dubbed "lock-on technology," Sonic & Knuckles acts as an expansion pack to both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the latter with which it was developed in tandem.

It serves as the direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The game features unique "lock-on technology" which enables another cartridge to be plugged in via the socket on top. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (both episodes) follows sometime after the events of Sonic & Knuckles.

Its success led to Knuckles becoming a playable character in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It has since been ported to the GameCube, DS, and Virtual Console. If the player downloads both Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic 2 or Sonic 3 onto the Wii, Knuckles will become a playable character in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3.
