The United States found it easier to send her to prison than to admit how many wrongs they had done. Apart from the official obligation, many Republicans showed indifference on the event. Donald Rumsfeld tried to deny torture happened in Abu Ghraib saying "What has been charged so far is abuse, which I believe technically is different from torture. I'm not going to address the 'torture' word." Democrats severely criticized the incident and demanded resignation of several politicians of the Bush administration. Al Gore was one of the most vocal in criticizing the incident. He demanded the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld. According to Gore, "In Iraq, what happened at that prison, it is now clear, is not the result of random acts of a few bad apples. It was the natural consequence of the Bush Administration policy".
