| - David Michael Matranga is a professional baseball player currently playing in the Texas Rangers organization with their triple-A team, the Oklahoma RedHawks. He was born January 8, 1977 in Orange, California where he attended Orange High School. After high school Matranga played baseball for Pepperdine University and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 6th round of the 1998 amateur draft. He made his major league debut on June 27, 2003 with the Houston Astros. On his first at-bat he worked the pitcher to a count of one ball and one strike and then belted a homerun on the next pitch, making him the 86th player in Major League history and the 2nd player in Astros history to hit a homerun in his first plate appearance.
