James (also known by the designation S-114) was born sometime in the late 2520's. All other background knowledge is classified by ONI. | - James is most notable for his heroism in combat where he has earned several medals. However, his quick temper due to testing done during augementaion for his Spartan III training is a severe weakness which keeps him from displaying any tpe of respect toward fellow soldiers and superior officers, save a few whom James had bonded with during the war against the Covenant.

| - James (also known by the designation S-114) was born sometime in the late 2520's. All other background knowledge is classified by ONI. After being taken as a child at the age of 4 from his parents, he arrived at Onyx for S-III Beta Company training. Striving to be the best he could, James dedicated himself to his work and became one of the best of the S-III earning a ranking in the top 20 of his "class". However, during augmentation, 009762-OO, the illegal substance used to increase aggression by altering the chemistry of the frontal lobe, was administered to James as one of several experiments to create a new "cocktail" for the next company of Spartans. The effects were not immediate but as time progressed, it was discovered that the 00927-DG and 009127-PX, which were meant to decrease the psychotic response of the original drug had little to no effect. During training exercises, James would frequently injure classmates to the point where several needed to be hospitalized and one was released from the program all together when 114 injured her in CQC training, resulting in a comma she never recovered from. Such aggression, it was determined, could lead to serious fatalities among the other Spartans and he was deemed unfit for duty. However, despite Kurt's recommendation to release James altogether, ONI promoted James to the rank of Sgt. due to his "unique" training and placed him in an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper Battalion. ONI believed that his increase aggression and training were more useful on the field than behind a desk, analyzing data like ther other "drop-outs" of the S-III program. Following his transfer, he was deployed to The Defense of Gilgamesh. Upon leading successful raids against Covenant units at the base of a Covenant carrier, he was promoted to the rank of SSgt and presented the Navy Cross for Valor displayed when he dragged two fellow soldiers to safety and fended off several waves of Covenant forces while they awaited reinforcements at the ship. After also leading a strike team into a Covenant battleship at the Battle of Tantalus, he recieved a battlefield promotion to the rank of MSGT when his platoon SGT was killed in the assault.
