Originally thought to be simply the effects of long-term exposure to subzero temperatures on scantily-dressed, poorly nourished women, it was eventually discovered, during the mid-twentieth century, that WF is actually caused by prions[#endnote_prions] originally hosted by bearatross. Although most reputable scienticians and epidemiologists have accepted the prion theory, some have proposed another possibility.
