Trinidadian Nigel Pierre had a brief but eventful spell at Rovers in 2000, when he made just one start and two substitute appearances for the first team in February and March of that year. He was signed from Trinidad & Tobago side Joe Public and was a highly rated international for that country, but although he was initially granted a work permit to play in England it was soon revoked when it emerged that the panel had been given incorrect information about the number of international caps he had won.

  • Trinidadian Nigel Pierre had a brief but eventful spell at Rovers in 2000, when he made just one start and two substitute appearances for the first team in February and March of that year. He was signed from Trinidad & Tobago side Joe Public and was a highly rated international for that country, but although he was initially granted a work permit to play in England it was soon revoked when it emerged that the panel had been given incorrect information about the number of international caps he had won. After his work permit had been withdrawn Rovers retained the player's registration for some time before eventually being ordered to release it the following season, whereupon Pierre returned to his former club, Joe Public. Nigel's debut for Rovers came on 26 February 2000 at Boundary Park, when he came on as a 62nd minute substitute for Jason Roberts in a 4–1 Division Two victory over Oldham Athletic. He was used as a sub for the second time ten days later in a 1–0 win over Wycombe Wanderers at the Memorial Stadium, this time replacing Mark Walters 80 minutes into the match, before making his one and only start on 11 March 2000 against Bury at Gigg Lane. The match ended in a goalless draw, with Pierre being taken off and replaced by Nathan Ellington in the 64th minute, meaning his Rovers playing career had lasted a grand total of 102 minutes.
