After several people identified Roof as the main suspect, he became the center of a manhunt that ended the morning after the shooting with his arrest in Shelby, North Carolina. He later confessed that he committed the shooting in hopes of igniting a race war. Three days after the shooting, a website titled The Last Rhodesian was discovered and later confirmed by officials to be owned by Roof. The website contained photos of Roof posing with symbols of White supremacy and neo-Nazism, along with a manifesto in which he outlined his views towards blacks, among other "peoples". He also claimed in the manifesto to have developed his White supremacist views following research on the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin and black-on-White crime. Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He also faces federal hate crime charges, for which he faces the death penalty. His trial in state court will start on July 11, 2016. During his incarceration, Roof had taken up the habit of esoteric Moonist meditation. Some time in the summer of 2015, not long after he was incarcerated, Roof underwent a mystical apotheosis when a strange, green-glowing meteor crashed into his cell while he was meditating on the white master race, transforming him into the celestial being Meteor Man. Not long afterward, he was inducted into the Triple K Mafia. Ben Garrison stated in a 2015 interview that Meteor Man has always existed as a timeless being, and that Dylann Roof is merely his present-day incarnation. Meteor Man has one solo work, "Nigger Whip", although Sun Man appears at the end of it. Meteor Man also appears under the name Dylann Roof in collaboration with Moon Man on "Take Me to Church", "One Shot Two Shot", and the "Outro" to The White Album, and he performs Sun Man's part in WillBadGuy's original and alternative covers of "Notorious KKK". He appeared on The Killing Moon in "Bitch Please" and "Eugenics". He also produced the Moon Man single "I Remember".
