The man in the iron mask was the twin brother of French king, Louis XIV imprisoned for over forty years at Château d'If off the coast of France to prevent his taking the throne. Before he was confined, the man in the iron mask fathered a son in secret. The child and his descendents were raised to believe they were the rightful heir to the throne, and to take it when the time was right.
