  • The French Federation of Polynesia (French: Fédération Française de la Polynésie), commonly known as French Polynesia (Polynésie Française) or simply Polynesia (Polynésie), and often abbreviated as FFP, is an island nation which spans across the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is composed of nine federated provinces and one uninhabited dependency. The federation was originally composed of several separate colonies, many of which were possessions of the British Empire. These were lost to the French after the peace treaty, and were integrated into the colonies of New Caledonia, Tuamotu, and others. The colony of French Caledonia became a federation in 1946, when the former British colonies requested their own province.
