An oneironaut is simply another name for a dreamer. The word is derived from Greek. In Greek mythology, the Oneiroi (Όνειροι, Dreams) were, according to Hesiod, sons of Nyx (Night), and were brothers of Hypnos (Sleep), Thanatos (Death), Geras (Old Age) and other beings, all produced parthogenetically. Cicero follows this tradition, but describes the sons of Nyx as fathered by Erebus (Darkness).

The movie Out of Africa may have a good illustration of this and certainly Leo de Caprio's new movie. Here is another. Hook up an EEG to someone's brain waves while playing Playstation for several hours and look at the brain waves while they are playing. Then take this person into a dark room with the lights off and have them visualize what they were just doing. The brain waves do exactly the same thing. What then is the real reality? What we perceive to be true or what we observe to be true? Something to think about. This article is a stub. You can help LucidWiki by [ expanding it].
